In May 2014, Michael and Jessica McKinley opened Whit’s Frozen Custard in Atlantic Beach, Florida. With roots in Granville, Ohio that brought the McKinley’s back to the original Whit’s location several times a year, Whit’s Frozen Custard was always at the top of the “must-have” list when visiting. Michael and Jessica were thrilled with the opportunity to bring their favorite frozen dessert home to Northeast Florida. Michael and Jessica have expanded Whit’s in the Jacksonville area to now 7 total locations: Atlantic Beach, Avondale, Jax Beach, Kernan Square, Mandarin, South Jax, and Orange Park. Whit’s of Land O’Lakes is family-owned and operated by Florida natives Craig and Melissa Walker, who have considered a range of business opportunities over the past decade. When they experienced Whit’s of Stuart, they recognized something special about this small franchise that had originated in Ohio. The Walkers were delighted to bring this frozen custard to our area. Craig folded up his medical scrubs after a twenty year successful career to be a business owner and work alongside his family instead of the frantic corporate schedule. Melissa’s background as an educator has given her a passion to connect with others in the community.

Whether you create your own flavor with a sundae, milkshake, float, the famous Whitties, or enjoy a scoop of vanilla, chocolate, or the featured flavor of the day, the made-fresh daily treat is a smile in a cup. Visitors can enjoy Whit’s custard knowing that this higher-end ice cream is Non-GMO, Hormone Free, and Gluten Free. The vegan/dairy free options made with coconut milk or oat milk broaden the menu so that everyone can enjoy the Whit’s atmosphere and make memories while enjoying this tasty sweet treat. A coffee menu can be enjoyed, including the option of an “affogato" (scoop of custard with a shot of espresso, sundae or Whitser style) made with Ragged Coffee, a local roaster.

Craig and Melissa’s vision is for Whit’s of Land O’Lakes to be a place in the community where people can drive their golf cart, ride their bike, or stop in while driving in the area, as well as a destination location where people from the surrounding communities enjoy visiting and making sweet memories.

WHIT’S FROZEN CUSTARD OF KNOXVILLE, TN

Kim’s favorite sweet treat since childhood has always been ice cream. When her youngest daughter, Sami, got one of her first jobs at Whit’s Frozen Custard in Wellington, FL, thinking it was just ice cream, Kim didn’t try it right away. In Florida there wasn’t frozen custard, there was only ice cream. One day Sami brought home some black raspberry chip and Kim gave it a try, she immediately fell in love. Once her daughter left for college and she continued to enjoy Whit’s every chance she got (ok, maybe more than 2-3 times a week.) 

Kim’s plans were always to move to Tennessee once she became an empty nester. She wanted the mountains and seasons; she wanted fall and winter. She loves art and she ended up falling in love with Knoxville, and it’s support of the artistic community. Knoxville, fit everything she was looking for in a new hometown.  

Working in the corporate world and running other people’s businesses most of her working life, she knew she was ready and she wanted to run her own business. Considering her favorite job ever was working in a comedy club, she knew she wanted to do something she loved. What did she love about the comedy club, she loved the freedom of not being chained to a desk all day, laughing, seeing the smiles on customers’ faces, and watching them enjoy themselves.  

One day just before her planned move to Knoxville, Kim’s daughter casually mentioned that when she moved, she should open her own Whit’s Frozen Custard, since she loved it so much. The spark was lit!!! She did her research, saw there was only 1 Whit’s in Tennessee, which was located in Franklin, and decided she was going to take a leap of faith and open her own Whit’s Frozen Custard in Knoxville. 

When Kim moved to Knoxville in March of 2022, she immediately started looking for a place to put her own Whit’s Frozen Custard. She found the perfect location for her first store and she hasn’t looked back since.  

Whit’s Frozen Custard of Knoxville officially opened its doors on May 12, 2023! Kim and her team have had the pleasure of serving delicious frozen custard and bringing smiles to the Farragut community and surrounding areas ever since!!!

We looked for a location similar to the original Whits Frozen Custard in Granville. We wanted a small town atmosphere with good pedestrian traffic and a diverse mix of restaurants and shops. We believe that Uptown Westerville meets these requirements. It is a historic neighbourhood with buildings dating back to the 19th century. It is also just a few blocks from Otterbein University.

Growing up in Kansas, Daniel was familiar with frozen custard and it became his favorite dessert. Fast forward several years later, while planning his wedding near Asheville, NC, he discovered Whit's Frozen Custard and they catered at his wedding. Moving forward a few years later during Covid and Daniel found his desire to open a Whit's in Augusta, GA where he felt the CSRA would be ready for a great frozen custard store. He knows Whit's is a great product that can sell itself, he just had to introduce it to his neighbors.

David discovered Whit's while living in Asheville, NC. He immediately fell in love with their frozen custard and became a regular customer, going a couple of times a week. In 2017, David moved to Charlotte, NC with his family and noticed that there was not a Whit's Frozen Custard location near him.  After searching and planning, David finally found the perfect location.  David and his son opened Whit's Frozen Custard Fort Mill in March of 2019 and have been dishing out smiles ever since!

Whit's Frozen Custard Fort Mill serves up premium frozen custard made fresh daily. We are located just across from the entrance to Baxter Village. We are open 7 days a week offering 4 fresh flavors daily (Vanilla, Chocolate, Flavor of the Week and Flavor of the Day) that can be scooped in cups or cones. We also stock our most popular flavors in our Grab and Go Freezer in Pint and Quart containers. We also offer shakes, sundaes, banana splits and Whitsers (any of our array of toppings lightly blended with one of the freshly made flavors) as well as vegan and sugar-free options. Our most popular item is the Whittie. It's our custard sandwiched between two store-baked cookies. We typically have a dozen or more varieties available for purchase. Our first store in Tennessee, located in the suburb of Franklin just 20 minutes south of downtown Nashville, opened its doors in April 2016. This location is proud to serve the growing Berry Farms community, just off I-65 at the Peytonsville exit.

Erin has been an ice cream lover her entire life. She has fond childhood memories of eating ice cream all the time with her dad and loving flavors like Rocky Road and Neapolitan. Ice cream was always her dessert of choice after meals, on vacation or just because. That love of ice cream carried into adulthood. Fast forward to 2010 when her family moved to New Albany, OH for their corporate jobs. During that time, they found and fell in love with Whit’s and became weekly patrons. They are avid Hawaiian Luau and Buckeye lovers! They also watched that weekly flavor sign like a hawk waiting for some of their favorites to roll around. There was something different in Whit’s that they had never had before. Growing up in the South, frozen custard wasn’t something they had around them and experiencing it for the first time was magical! They knew vanilla custard alone is the absolute best vanilla frozen dessert they had ever had. When they moved back to their home state of TN in 2014 they searched high and low for something like Whit’s. There was absolutely nothing like it.  During a visit back to Ohio they visited Whit’s three times in one weekend just to get their Whit’s fix before heading back home where there was nothing like it. They left that weekend and decided that the greater Nashville area needed a Whit’s. With little to no food service background, Brian and Erin, along with the help of their three daughters: Hannah, Haven, and Hallie, opened the first Whit’s in TN on April 13, 2016. They have had the pleasure of serving the Franklin community and surrounding suburbs for almost seven years. It’s been a wild ride! So much so, they decided to do it again and open a second location in a connecting suburb so that others can experience the best frozen desserts around!

After years of visiting the Whit’s Frozen Custard store in Atlantic Beach, Florida while staying with our Nona Lou, and many family vacation detours to enjoy more of Whit’s, we decided it was time to bring Whit’s Frozen Custard to Newnan! Better than ice cream, and the many other custards we tried along the way, our family just could not get enough of Whit’s Frozen Custard! It was a long journey but we opened the first Georgia Whit’s franchise in June of 2020!

Rebecca and Brandon are originally from Alabama.  After living in Ohio for 10 years, Whit’s became their favorite place for a sweet treat!  They wanted to return home and liked the idea of bringing something unique to the community.  They knew it would be perfect for the South since it is homemade and Made Fresh Daily.

We offer Vanilla, Chocolate and a Weekly Flavor Custard made fresh daily. You can make Whitsers, Shakes, Sundaes, Floats and more with our custard and toppings to create your own flavor. Pick up a custard cake in our store, or create your own custom cake! Our cakes are made fresh in our store and involve a four-step process, so please allow 72 hours for your order. Orders for weekend pickup must be placed by Thursday.

During and after COVID, the local Whit’s in Ashland, OH had to reduce their hours due to lack of available employees. Not wanting to see a local small business fail, Lori, a full-time Nurse Practitioner, decided to apply for a job to work a couple of nights per week to help the store survive.  She loved the atmosphere and believed in the product so much that she wanted to look into opening a Whit’s in another city with her husband, Rick, a full-time elementary school principal.  In talking to Whit’s corporate headquarters about opening a new store, they told them that the Ashland owners were considering selling their store.  Three months later, Lori and Rick were the owners of Whit’s of Ashland, Ohio in their hometown. Lori and Rick have had great support and sales from the Ashland community due to having such a great product.  Whit’s Frozen Custard is unlike any other dessert.

Whit's of Ashland is walking distance from the Ashland University, Ashland County Fairgrounds, businesses, shopping, and neighborhoods. Located in a former bank building, the unique vault remains in place and has become quite the conversation piece. Many customers ask if that is where we keep our secret recipes! We have a great location, inside and outside seating, and a convenient drive thru. We are very family oriented and make our customers feel like they are part of our family!
